Young children talk about cigarettes

Over the past two years, Dr. Dina Borzekowski, research professor in our Department of Behavioral and Community Health, has looked at young children’s perceptions of tobacco packages and smoking around the world, specifically, in China, Russia, Pakistan, India, Nigeria, and Brazil. Her research was recently published in the October 2013 issue of Pediatricsit revealed that 68 percent of 5 and 6 year-olds can identify at least one cigarette brand logo.

One of the best ways to change practices around tobacco advertising and promotion is to hear from children. In addition to the global research study, Dr. Borzekowski's teams have been creating videos to spark buzz around the reach of the tobacco companies. Just released are two videos produced in Moscow. Here, Russian children talk about tobacco and cigarette packages. Please watch and share the links.

You can also read more about Dr. Borzekowski's research on tobacco marketing and young children in the news release: Young Children Recognize Cigarette Brands.
