Upcoming Alumni Events

SPH Alumni Events Planned During Homecoming Week

The School of Public Health is inviting all alumni to come and catch up with friends, colleagues and faculty mentors at the 2013 Ice Cream Social and Networking Reception on Oct. 24 during Homecoming week at UMD.


Ice cream will be served in the Friedgen Family Student Lounge on the second floor of the SPH building from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., where people can enjoy a tasty snack and socialize with fellow alumni.


After the Ice Cream Social, alumni can reconvene in the main lobby (outside the student lounge) to network and build new relationships with SPH grads from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Invited alumni speakers include podiatrist Ayne Furman (’77) and Rear Admiral Jeffrey Harbeson, (’79).

The university has many events planned for Homecoming, including comedian and actor Jim Gaffigan, who will be performing two hours of standup Thursday Oct. 24 from 8 to 10 p.m. in Cole Fieldhouse.

Friday will host the Pre-Party and Prep Rally, featuring a climbing wall, Greek skits, beer garden, DJ, and fireworks to close the evening.Saturday is gameday, with the Terps facing off against the Clemson Tigers.

Gameday activities include a tailgate contest, face painting, autograph sessions with athletes, and a live band with a barbecue buffet in the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center.

Kickoff time is yet to be announced.

University of Maryland Alumni Reception at APHA Meeting in Boston, Nov. 4

On Monday Nov. 4, the School of Public Health will host another alumni networking event at the American Public Health Association Annual Meeting and Exposition in Boston.

The social will be held from 6:30- 8:00 PM in the Westin Waterfront hotel (Douglas Room), directly across from the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
