Every fall and spring semester, public and community health students organize health fairs throughout the area. There were three held recently: one at the Maryland Multicultural Youth Center in Riverdale, one at Maryland Day and one at Seat Pleasant Day. Students worked hard all semester learning about health topics that ranged from childhood obesity to domestic violence, from HIV to osteoporosis. They also organized themselves into committees to execute the event planning. What the community got out of it? Useful, interesting and targeted health information. What the students got out of it? Valuable organizational, research, evaluative and community engagement skills they say they'll be able to use throughout their lives.
