Science Cafes in DC. Good times!

You've been there on a Friday night: You're questioning whether you want to hang out with your friends at a pub or have a frank and lively discussion about a major science issue facing our world. Well, why not both?

Science Cafes have been popping up around the United States, inviting people with no scientific background an opportunity to learn and discuss major issues of our day.

For those of us in DC Metro area, here's information about an exciting upcoming event, particularly for those of us with an interest in public health:
The evening of Friday, November 21, 2008, Gordon Biersch, Regional Food & Drink, the Marriott Renaissance, and the new location of Busboys and Poets will be adding a scientist to the Friday-night crowd to start up some lively, and potentially controversial, conversation on a topic that is essential for our planet---water.

This series of Science Cafes, known as the "D.C. SimulCafé", will focus on the theme of "Water". This may include water chemistry, water policy, hydrology, limnology, or oceanography.

The café at Gordon Biersch will start at 5:30, while the café's at Regional Food & Drink and Busboys & Poets will start at 6:30. The café at the Marriott Renaissance will start at 8:30 pm. The variety of starting times are intended to give people a choice of start times (after work, "happy hour", and evening).
