UMD-PRC Organizes Prominant Health Summit with Seat Pleasant

The University of Maryland-Prevention Research Center may be new, but make no mistake: it's taking big steps. Last week, the UMD-PRC organized an important health summit to address resource needs and disparities in Prince George's County and the City of Seat Pleasant. You can catch more about it on the University Web site. Here's a blurb:

[Dr. Brad Boekeloo, director of UMD-PRC] adds that the meeting is rare because it was requested by the community itself: Seat Pleasant Mayor Eugene Grant asked the Maryland School of Public Health's Center for Prevention Research to organize it. "This is a remarkable act of faith," Boekeloo says. "Under-served communities rarely trust researchers enough to ask for help."

The Summit also caught the attention of The Washington Post higher education page.
