Health Summit Aims to Improve Health Conditions in Seat Pleasant and Prince George's County

In light of new healthcare legislation, the Mayor Eugene Grant is finding ways to garner resources for the City of Seat Pleasant and Prince George's County, an area where some of the worst heath conditions in the state exist. Looking to a 10-year partnership between the City and our University, Mayor Grant asked the UMD-Prevention Resource Center for some help.

The Center, under the guidance of Director Brad Boekeloo, organized a health summit which drew together legislatures, health officers, providers, researchers and insurers into one room to hammer out a new strategy to promote healthy living. The exciting meeting concluded with Mayor Grant closing the doors until volunteers stepped forward to conduct a survey to gauge health perception among the people of Seat Pleasant.

Mayor Grant and Dr. Boekeloo talked about the Summit, and the City of Seat Pleasant-University of Maryland Health Partnership on the Kojo Nnamdi Show on Monday. Listen in here. You can also watch a clip of Mayor Grant's speech below, capturing the unacceptable health conditions and health equity issues that he aims to wipe out of his City.
