Being a short 30-minute drive from the nation's capitol certainly provides a plethora of opportunities, and today a study published in the Washington Post confirmed that a lot of students find D.C. the perfect area to continue their education.
The College Destinations Index, released by The American Institute for Economic Research, ranked Washington D.C. as the fourth-best metropolitan area for going to college, beating out Baltimore at seventh. Seattle was fifth and Chicago was 12th.
The top three ranked cities were New York, San Francisco and Boston.
The research is based upon 12 criteria that included cost of living and cultural amenities. Student ratio within the area is also considered. It was found that one in eight D.C. residents attends college, with D.C. and its suburbs being home to 140,000 college students.
