Seat Pleasant Health Fair EXTRA

As promised, here's an extra post about the Seat Pleasant Health Fair, with more photos and more questions/answers with the students in Dr. Sharon Desmond's Community Health class. Enjoy:

Healthy Turtle: Did the fair go well?

Katherine Cole: I thought the health fair went well. The residents were interested and eager to learn about the information we were presenting. They enjoyed the activities we had with our posters, activities included hula hoops and jump ropes at the poster about fitness, a punching bag at the poster about stress management and several posters had flashcard questionnaires.

The only downside was the rain but luckily we had tents for the vendors and students brought umbrellas. So it all worked out.

HT: What do you think the attendees came away from the fair with?

Tanya Torres: I think that the attendees came away from the fair seeing the School of Public Health students of the University of Maryland are indeed passionate about health advocacy, and spreading important knowledge. I feel the attendees cam away with a lot of this knowledge that will always be important in their lives.

Jennifer Howard: I know that the people that came by my poster were very curious and eager to learn about their health. I think people walked away with new and useful information, and if nothing else, a rejuvenated attitude towards healthy living.

I think it affects people when they see all of the effort we put into coming out there to provide them with information. I think it makes them realize that their health is important and other people care about the well-being of their community.

HT: What was the best part of the day?

Rebekah Joseph: The best part of the day was when I looked around and saw people at every single station that we had set up for them. The residents looked so interested in what we had to say. That was our reason for coming to the health fair, so I was glad to just see that actually playing out.

I think the best part of the day was also the most important part of the day as well because we were fulfilling our goal for coming to the health fair.

Katherine Cole: The best part of the day was being able to talk to the residents. After all of the work we put into the health fair in Dr. Desmond’s class it was great to meet them. I think the most important part was discussing the health information with them.

This way we could make sure they understood how important the information we were giving to them was and how it related to their lives.

HT: What was the most important part of the Health Fair?

Amy Hillman: Although we tried to make our presentations engaging and interesting, the most important part of the health fair was the information that we were passing along to the residents.

One of the best parts of the fair was hearing the comments of the residents. We got compliments about the material we were delivering, the giveaways from the organizations, and how organized the fair was as a whole. I think that this positive attitude about our fair was important for the residents to take away from the day, because this will encourage them to return to the health fair next year.
