Renovation Update: It's Raining Racquetballs

Among other improvements around the building, the ongoing renovation of the SPH Building includes the demolition of two banks of eight racquetball courts, clearing the way for new office and research space.

These racquetball courts have been in use since the building was built 35 years ago, and as construction crews have worked to demolition the courts, they received quite a surprise from above, according to Adam Shervanian, Assistant Director of Facilities Management.

When crews started tearing down the ceiling, Shervanian said, everything that had been trapped up in the ceiling came raining down—including hundreds of racquetballs.

So many, in fact, that crews had to bring in snow shovels to scoop up all the blue bouncing racquetballs that had cascaded out of the ceiling.
