
Organized by our colleagues at the APHA, next week is officially National Public Health Week--an opportunity to educate others about the important issues of public health and the work of our school.
Every department within our SPH is participating in this exciting week, and we will be hosting events from Tuesday to Friday. Check the schedule below for more information, and we hope to see you during the week:
Hooked on Hookah
Tuesday, April 7 from 12-1 pm in the Stamp Student Union

This program will educate students on the dangers of smoking through a hookah (waterpipe), which is considered by many to be a “safe” alternative to cigarettes.
Trends in Racial Disparities in the Elderly for Selected Procedures

Dr. Jayasree (Joy) Basu will present an informative brown bag lecture on this subject. Dr. Basu is a Senior Economist and Director of the Intramural Research Program of the Center for Primary Care, Prevention, and Clinical Partnerships at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
Healthy Body 101

KNES will kick-off two programs--one, the “Take the Stairs Challenge,” will ask students to pledge to avoid using the elevator as a way to increase their overall activity level. Two, the “Mile a Day Challenge,” will invite people to walk at least one mile each day to improve their health.

This eventwill showcase the ongoing work of students in the “Health Begins at Home” program. The showcase will include a poster and web presentation, and will also include a brown bag seminar on the topic.
